Growing is something your body does a little bit every day, even though you cannot see it happening! Your bones, muscles, skin, and organs all grow so they can keep up with your bigger body. Everyone grows at their own pace, and that is completely normal!
Your bones have special areas near their ends called growth plates, where new bone is added to make you taller. Your muscles grow stronger as you use them, and your organs grow to keep up with the rest of your body. To help your body grow well, it needs three important things: healthy food, plenty of sleep, and exercise!
Foods with protein, calcium, and vitamins give your body the building blocks it needs. Sleep is when your body does a lot of its growing, which is one reason kids need more sleep than adults. Being active helps your bones and muscles get stronger every day!
- You will keep growing until you are about 18 to 20 years old!
- Your body actually does most of its growing while you are asleep.
- Some kids can grow as much as 4 inches in a single year during a growth spurt!
