Your hands touch lots of things every day, like doorknobs, toys, and pets! Tiny things called germs can stick to your hands when you touch these things, even though you can’t see them. Washing your hands is one of the most important things you can do to stay healthy.
Wash your hands with soap and water for 20 seconds to help wash those germs away. Make sure to scrub between your fingers, under your nails, and the backs of your hands. Try singing a short song in your head while you scrub to make sure you wash long enough!
It is really important to wash your hands before you eat and after you use the bathroom. You should also wash them after playing outside or petting an animal. Clean hands help keep you and the people around you healthy!
- Washing your hands can prevent about 30 percent of all sickness!
- A doctor named Ignaz Semmelweis discovered over 150 years ago that hand washing saves lives.
