Wangari Maathai was an inspiring scientist and an amazing friend to our planet! She grew up in a beautiful country in Africa and loved seeing all the green, leafy trees around her home. When she grew up, she noticed that many trees were being cut down and the land was getting dry. Wangari decided to take action and teach people how to plant tiny seeds to grow new trees!
She started a wonderful group called the Green Belt Movement, and together they planted millions of trees! Her hard work helped make the soil healthy again and gave people fresh food and clean water. Wangari was the very first African woman to win the famous Nobel Peace Prize for her amazing work. She taught us that planting just one little tree can help change the whole world!
