Sitting Bull was a brave and wise Native American chief from the Lakota Sioux tribe who protected his people and their home on the Great Plains! When he was a boy, his name was ‘Jumping Badger,’ and he loved riding horses fast and learning to shoot a bow and arrow with his friends. He earned his grown-up name after showing he was strong, smart, and never ran away when things got scary. Sitting Bull was known as a holy man who could talk to the spirits and see what the future held, helping him keep his tribe safe!
Chief Sitting Bull is famous for winning a very big fight called the Battle of Little Bighorn, where he bravely stood up to the United States army! He didn’t want the army taking away the lands where his people liked to hunt the great buffalo. Even though he had to travel far away to Canada and eventually move to a special piece of land called a reservation, he always stood tall for his people’s rights. We remember Sitting Bull as a proud and caring leader who loved his beautiful culture very much!
