Martin Luther King Jr. was a powerful and inspiring leader who wanted everyone in America to be treated fairly, no matter the color of their skin! When he was a little boy, his best friend’s parents told him he couldn’t play with his friend anymore just because they looked different. Martin thought that was terribly unfair, so he decided he would grow up and change the rules. He became a minister at a church and started teaching people that they should love each other and work together in peace!
Dr. King is most famous for giving an incredible speech called ‘I Have a Dream’ in front of thousands of people in Washington, D.C.! In his dream, he saw a beautiful world where all children could hold hands and play together like brothers and sisters. Because of his brave marches and powerful words, new laws were made to make sure everybody was treated equally and with respect. Every year in January, we celebrate a special holiday just to remember his wonderful dream and keep it alive!
