Abraham Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States, and he helped our country stay together during a very hard time! He was very tall and loved to wear a big black stovepipe hat. When he was a boy, Abraham loved to read books and learn new things, even though he grew up in a small log cabin. He worked very hard and was known for always telling the truth, which is why people called him “Honest Abe”!
President Lincoln is most famous for helping to end slavery so that all people could be free. He was a brave and kind leader who believed that everyone should be treated fairly! Today, you can see his face on the shiny copper penny and the five-dollar bill. We remember him as one of our greatest heroes who made sure our country was a place where everyone can be free!
