Grace Hopper

Grace Hopper was a brilliant mathematician who helped teach some of the very first computers how to work! When computers were brand new, they were as big as a whole room and very hard to use. Grace invented a special program that translated human words into computer code. Because of her amazing work, it became much easier for people to write programs and tell computers what to do!

Grace was also famous for finding a real-life bug inside a computer! One day, her giant computer stopped working, and she found a tiny moth stuck inside the machine. She taped the moth into her notebook and called it a “bug.” Even today, when our computers or games have a problem, we still call it a computer bug thanks to Grace!
