Elizabeth Blackwell was a super smart and determined woman who changed the world! When she was young, a friend told her that it would be so nice to have a female doctor to help her feel better. Elizabeth decided she wanted to be that doctor! Even though people told her that girls couldn’t be doctors back then, she studied very hard and kept trying until a medical school finally let her in!
In 1849, Elizabeth made history by becoming the very first woman in the United States to earn a medical degree! She opened her own clinic to help women and children stay healthy, and she even started a medical college just for women! Because of her bravery and hard work, she opened the door for so many other girls to follow their dreams of becoming doctors too!
