Guion Bluford is a courageous astronaut who was born on November 22, 1942, and he is still alive today! He made history by becoming the very first African American to travel into space! He blasted off on the Space Shuttle Challenger and flew all the way into the starry sky. While in space, he worked with a giant robotic arm and helped do important science experiments!
Before going to space, Guion was a brave pilot who flew airplanes for the Air Force! He loved learning how things fly so much that he went to school to become an aerospace engineer. He flew to space four different times during his life! He showed the world that with hard work and a love for science, you can reach the stars!
