Ellen Ochoa is a talented astronaut and inventor who was born on May 10, 1958! She made history by becoming the very first Hispanic woman to fly into space! She traveled on a Space Shuttle called Discovery and spent many days floating high above the Earth. While in space, she used a giant robotic arm to capture a satellite and bring it inside the ship safely!
Before she became an astronaut, Ellen was a smart scientist who invented special ways to take pictures using lasers! She also loves playing the flute, and she even brought her flute to space to play beautiful music while looking at the stars! Later, she became the director of the big space center where astronauts train, helping to guide the next generation of space explorers.
