You do not need any special tools to sing. Everyone can sing, and every voice sounds different. That is what makes singing so special and fun!
When you sing, air from your lungs moves up through your throat. Inside your throat are tiny parts called vocal cords. They vibrate really fast to make sound, kind of like a rubber band that buzzes when you pluck it.
You can sing high notes and low notes by changing how tight your vocal cords are. When they are tight, your voice sounds high. When they are loose, your voice sounds low. Try humming high and then low — you can feel it change in your throat!
People sing all kinds of songs. You might sing happy birthday at a party, sing along to your favorite song in the car, or sing a lullaby before bed. Some people sing by themselves, which is called singing solo.
When people sing together in a group, it is called a choir. In a choir, some people sing high notes and some sing low notes. When all the voices blend together, it sounds beautiful! Many schools have choirs where kids can learn to sing with their friends.
