The secret to mixing colors starts with three special colors called primary colors. These are red, blue, and yellow. You cannot make these colors by mixing other colors. But you can mix them together to make lots of new colors!

You can also change how light or dark a color is. Adding white to any color makes it lighter. This is called a tint. Adding white to red makes pink! Adding black to a color makes it darker. This is called a shade.
If you mix all three primary colors together, you get a dark brownish color. That is because the colors absorb more and more light when you mix them.
